8/3/2010 Update: There may be some floating around stores for a bit but we just sold the last 25 cases to John’s grocery in Iowa City. Great feedback on the beer so we’re pretty sure it will make a come back some day! We’ll keep you posted!!
7/18 Update: The Beer Crazy event was a great success and the Double IPA is getting rave reviews. We have expanded distribution some in the Des Moines market. The Iowa City area release at John’s is sure to be big so make sure to join us! July 24, 4-7pm, John’s Grocery.
Ever since Joe joined us he has been itching to make a Double IPA. However, until March Iowa law didn’t allow him to brew this style because the alcohol content is usually over the old limit of 5% by weight. But now that limit has been lifted, Joe got to work and brewed up a 20 barrel batch of his Double IPA. This will be the first of the Brewer’s Special Release brews that Joe will do from time to time. These will likely be big beers, unique and brewed in smaller batches.
The Double IPA will be released at two seperate release events the first at Beer Crazy in Urbandale on July 10 from 2-4pm. We will be there with samples of the IPA and have it available for sale by the case only. (Since it is a relatively small batch and we moved fast on it, we aren’t able to get 6 pack boxes in time.) The second release event will be at John’s Grocery in Iowa City. We will sample some of our other beers as well at each event and have some prize drawings.
In other beer news, the sweet corn is ready and Joe will be brewing the late summer/early fall seasonal Cornucopia soon. This belgian style saison brewed with sweet corn stalks for great flavor and slight sweetness. Cornucopia will be bottled as well. He also got in a big batch of lemon grass that is going to be used in a late summer ale so stay tuned for details…..
